ABOUT ABOUT

The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is an annual video contest in which kid filmmakers create short movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery award-winning books in just a few minutes. Creative takes are encouraged: think Charlotte's Web as a horror movie, or The Tale of Desperaux as a musical!

For thirteen years we've screened the best kid-made movies annually in Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, and many other cities . . . including right here in New York City!

Make your FREE reservation for the BROOKLYN screening of this year's 90-Second Newbery. The screening is hosted by authors James Kennedy (The Order of Odd-Fish) and Newbery Honor winner Rita Williams-Garcia (One Crazy Summer and more).

We'll be showing movies made by kids from New York and some of the best from around the country.

This year, the Brooklyn 90-Second Newbery will screen on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 1-3 pm at the central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library (in the Dweck Auditorium). Books by James and Rita will be available for sale, and you can hang out with the authors and filmmakers!

Tickets are free! However, we recommend reserving your seat in advance to ensure admittance. Although a reservation is recommended, you don't have to bring a printed ticket. And if you want to make a donation to keep the film festival going, we'd certainly appreciate it!

(Interested in making your own 90-Second Newbery movie? Great! The deadline is January 26, 2024. You can find complete details, plus video resources, at the 90-Second Newbery website: http://www.90secondnewbery.com.)

Major support is provided by the Brooklyn Public Library.
